Laugh Lines, the interactive chronological game with The New Yorker cartoons
The magazine The New Yorker, which was founded in 1925, is celebrating this year 2025 its centennial with a series of editorial projects and events.
One of the initiatives they have prepared is the weekly publication of a digital interactive game based on their famous humorous cartoons called Laugh Lines, which challenges readers to place historical cartoons in chronological order.
The first edition of the game was recently published and, throughout the celebration year, The New Yorker will offer a new edition of Laugh Lines every week.
Other activities planned for the magazine's centennial are the following:
Publication of four special issues throughout the year. One of them will be the annual "Anniversary Issue", dated February 17 and 24, 2025, which will feature a special cover reinterpreting the iconic dandy Eustace Tilley, the character that appeared on the magazine's first cover. This special issue will be accompanied, on the website, by a digital special about the centennial.
The digitization of the complete The New Yorker archive is another major development that the magazine is preparing for this anniversary. This digitization will allow searching and consulting individual articles that until now were only available in more than 4,000 files (issues) in PDF format.
An exhibition at the New York Public Library titled "A Century of The New Yorker"
A documentary being prepared by Netflix about the magazine
A few months ago, we already talked about The New Yorker magazine in "On The Net Today" to explain their interactive contest "Cartoon Caption Contest".
