La Presse+, a free multimedia newspaper for tablets and Mac

One of the most interesting cases in the world of a newspaper that has become a 100% digital publication is the Canadian newspaper published in French La Presse, located in Montreal.

La Presse, which was founded in 1884 and currently belongs to a non-profit entity, has been for decades one of the reference newspapers in Canada. In 2009, La Presse stopped publishing its Sunday print edition. A few years later, in 2016, it also stopped appearing in print from Monday to Friday, and at the end of 2017 it closed the Saturday print edition, becoming a 100% digital newspaper.

What distinguishes La Presse from practically all other newspapers in the world is its commitment to publishing an app for tablets and Mac computers, called La Presse+, which offers each day, in the morning, a complete free edition of the newspaper in multimedia format that is consulted by more than 240,000 users each day.

La Presse+ includes texts, images, interactive graphics, videos and photo galleries and is organized by sections, offering a daily edition with a limited number of pages. It also includes a space for real-time news and allows access to previous editions.

If you want to discover a different news product, we encourage you to visit La Presse+. The app is available for Apple tablets (App Store) and Android (Google Play), and also for Mac computers.

The newspaper, which also publishes a website and a mobile app, has an editorial staff of more than 200 professionals, making it the largest French-language newsroom in North America.

The best movies of the 21st century, according to The New York Times readers

A few days ago we presented in "On the Net Today" the selection of the 100 best movies of the century made by The New York Times newspaper based on the opinion of just over 500 directors, actors and other professionals from the film world.

Now, the NYT has published a new list based on the opinion of more than 200,000 readers who have voted for their favorite movies.

You can consult for free (courtesy of "On the Net Today") the users' ranking at the following link:

The list allows you to mark movies already seen or save those you're interested in watching.

Anthropic launches an index to understand the effects of AI on the economy

The artificial intelligence company Anthropic, owner of Claude, announced a few days ago the launch of Anthropic Economic Futures, a multidisciplinary program that will offer funding to drive research, policy development and data infrastructure to help society navigate the economic transformation caused by AI.

This program joins the Anthropic Economic Index, which was presented a few months ago by Anthropic, and which regularly publishes updates and reports on trends in AI usage over time.

On this page some of the first data analyzed and published by this new index are available. For example, it shows the degree of AI usage based on the type of work, or what percentage of AI-facilitated tasks lean more toward augmentation (57%) of human capabilities compared to the automation (43%) of tasks, where AI directly performs tasks.
