📻 World Radio Day: AI is a tool, not a voice

Today, Friday, February 13, 2026, marks a new edition of World Radio Day, proclaimed by UNESCO in 2011 and celebrated around the world.

"It is a Day to thank broadcasters for the news they deliver, the voices they amplify and the stories they share," says UNESCO.

This year, the day serves to reflect on the role of artificial intelligence and its relationship with radio

According to its organizers, "Artificial Intelligence opens a new chapter: not just for innovation but for deepening the bond with listeners. When used ethically and responsibly to support professional judgement, creativity and public service values, AI can become an ally in strengthening audience trust. Technology alone does not build trust. Radio broadcasters do."

They conclude with a slogan for this year's celebration: "AI is a tool, not a voice."

On the UNESCO website dedicated to the 2026 World Radio Day edition, there is a detailed explanation of what AI can do for radio and what radio stations' strategy should be. Additionally, 13 concrete ideas are offered on how AI can be applied to the world of radio.

  • Recommended resource: Shazam

  • Why?

When I discovered Shazam years ago, I thought: if it didn't exist, we'd have to invent it. The fact that a song can play and you can instantly find out what it is, then listen to it as many times as you want—it's incredible. So often we hear songs and think: what song is this? This app feels totally revelatory to me. I've been using it for years now and it's one of my favorites. I couldn't go to unfamiliar places without it—hearing music and not being able to identify it would drive me crazy. What Shazam does is something that, for instance, ChatGPT can't do. So Shazam is an app that's very much alive.t above all, it's a great gateway into a genre born from pure digital invention.
