Now in its twentieth year, this travel special has become a must-read reference for travelers. The Times has complemented this edition with a retrospective piece examining both the guide's evolution since 2005 and the transformation of global travel over the past two decades.

Throughout its history, the Times special has featured 914 destinations in 145 countries. The United States leads with 155 featured locations, followed by Italy with 29 and France with 28.

The report introduces "Brand Chem", a new movement where brands and communities work together to create impactful content, moving away from traditional top-down marketing approaches.

The report identifies three key trend signals to watch:

  • Brand Fusion: Brands are gaining momentum through diverse creator collaborations and authentic storytelling

  • Identity Osmosis: Companies are naturally adapting to evolving consumer values and perspectives

  • Creative Catalysts: New tools and AI are enabling more exciting creative risks and real-time engagement

What makes this particularly interesting is how TikTok's data shows that 2 out of 3 users prefer brands partnering with various creators, and 40% find brands more relevant when they show personality. For marketers and content creators, this signals a clear shift toward more collaborative and authentic brand-community relationships in 2025.

2024 is the Warmest Year on Record

For the first time, temperatures exceeded the 1.5-degree threshold above pre-industrial levels, according to the European Copernicus program

In 2024, global average temperatures surpassed pre-industrial levels by 1.5 degrees for the first time. This was confirmed recently by the Climate Change Service of the European Copernicus program, which declared 2024 the warmest year since regular temperature measurements began in 1850.

This news is particularly significant and concerning because the 1.5-degree increase threshold was established as the maximum limit in the 2015 Paris Agreement, signed at that year's United Nations climate summit. The objective of this limit was to try to reduce the negative effects of climate change worldwide.
