The end of Stephen Colbert’s 'The Late Show' on CBS is announced

A few days ago, the American television network CBS announced that in May 2026 it will bring to an end one of the most emblematic programs in U.S. television, The Late Show, hosted for nearly 10 years by Stephen Colbert.
The Late Show, the leading late night show on U.S. television, airs Monday through Thursday nights. The program has had two hosts throughout its history: David Letterman, who was at the helm for 22 seasons, and Stephen Colbert, who when the program ends will have been in charge for 11 seasons.
The news of this program's end has generated enormous interest and has provoked all kinds of reactions, including among Colbert's competitors in American nighttime television, who have shown their support for the host by understanding that his departure is fundamentally due to political pressure from the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
However, CBS network has stated through a press release that the decision is "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night" and that "not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount", CBS' parent company.
CBS will end "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and retire "The Late Show" franchise in May 2026, the company announced Thursday, calling it "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night."
The program's YouTube channel offers numerous segments from the show. We have selected two recent ones, following the news of the program's ending:

In recent days, the United States Congress has approved the elimination of the annual federal aid of 1.1 billion dollars that was provided to the CPB, which could endanger the continuity of some stations.
In "On the Net Today" we have spoken on various occasions about offerings from NPR, such as "Tiny Desk" concerts or the "Planet Money" podcast, and we believe it is a good time to invite you to discover their extensive and varied range of programs and podcasts, which can be done through this page:
