The Election of the New Pope

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 26, the funeral for Pope Francis will be held, who passed away this past Monday, April 21, after twelve years of pontificate.

After the funeral, in the coming days, the conclave will begin in which 135 cardinals, under the age of 80, will meet to elect the new pontiff.

The official Vatican website offers detailed information about all the cardinals who are part of the College of Cardinals. Specifically, one can access an interactive tool that allows filtering information about the cardinals by various criteria or read detailed biographies of each of them.

In addition, the Vatican website also offers detailed information about all the popes throughout history.

For each of them, we can review their encyclicals, speeches, homilies, apostolic letters, travels, audiences, and many other pieces of information about their activity and messages. For example, here is available the detailed profile of Pope Francis.

The Vatican also has a comprehensive news service, Vatican News, available in various languages, including Spanish and English, where detailed coverage is provided of everything related to Pope Francis's funeral and the process that will lead to the conclave to elect his successor.

The death of the pope and the election of a new pontiff are events that arouse enormous informative interest worldwide. All media outlets are publishing extensive information about this these days. Here are several references as examples:

The New York Times Opinion Team Wins "Best in Show" at the SND Annual Awards

The Opinion team of The New York Times has just won the Best in Show award at the annual news design awards presented by the Society for News Design (SND) to recognize the highest standard of excellence in visual and editorial journalism.

A group of 42 judges from around the world evaluated nearly 5,000 entries in print, digital, student, and non-editorial categories and decided to give this distinction to the portfolio submitted by the Times Opinion team, which included both print and digital works. Additionally, the SND has awarded numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals to dozens of works from media outlets and professionals worldwide.

In the case of the highest distinction awarded to the Times, the judges have explained in detail the virtues of the submitted print and digital portfolio—you can read the comments here—and have said that "what elevated this work to Best in Show was not just its technical excellence, but also its journalistic importance."

According to the judges, the body of work produced by the NYT Opinion team "holds power accountable, provokes meaningful reactions, and represents the future of what opinion journalism can be. It was impossible to ignore the ambition and creativity behind every decision."

And they conclude their assessment with these words: "The opinion portfolio from The New York Times team is more than a showcase of great design: it's a bold statement about the evolving role of media and a truly unforgettable example of what's possible when storytelling, design, and purpose align."

These are the works that have allowed the NYT to win this prestigious award:
