Switzerland leads WIPO's ranking of world's most innovative economies
Switzerland remains, for the fourteenth consecutive year, the world's most innovative economy, followed by Sweden, United States, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, according to the 2024 Global Innovation Index just published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
This ranking classifies the most innovative economies among 133 countries worldwide. South Korea, Finland, Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark complete the list of the top 10 most innovative countries, with Spain ranking 28th.
The index also reveals the main science and technology innovation hubs worldwide, understood as areas (regions or cities) with the highest number of inventors and scientists in the world. Thus, the main science and technology innovation hub in 2024 is Tokyo-Yokohama (Japan), followed by Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai-Suzhou. China is, for the second consecutive year, the economy with the highest number of science and technology innovation hubs, followed by the USA.
