NotebookLM is a spectacular personalized artificial intelligence tool offered for free by Google that helps users organize and refine their ideas based on the documents they upload to the platform.
It is a very powerful personal assistant or collaborator that we can use as a creative support tool and works as follows:
Uploading sources
First, we must upload a document or a presentation to create a new notebook that we want to work on. It can be a PDF, a Google document, copied text, or the URL of an open-access website, among other options. We can add new documents or sources to that notebook (up to a maximum of 500,000 words).
Immediately, NotebookLM creates a "Notebook Guide" as a starting point for the work, which includes a summary, suggestions for actions to take or questions to ask, and, recently, the option to create an audio summary (currently only in English) in the form of a conversation between two people, with AI-generated voices. A podcast that we can download. Try it because the result is truly incredible!
Asking questions
From there, we can start interacting with the uploaded sources, asking questions or selecting instructions. NotebookLM works only with the information contained in our sources, so all answers and references will be based on the material we have uploaded.
For example, we can ask it to summarize a document, create a glossary of key terms, present it in the form of frequently asked questions, create a study guide from the document, or offer us an index, among other options.
In addition to offering objective answers, NotebookLM can also suggest creative ideas to improve a text or presentation, or propose possible titles for an article.
Every time we ask NotebookLM something, we can mark or unmark the sources we want it to use to give us the answer.
Creating and using notes. There are several ways to create new notes in NotebookLM:
Save a model response to notes
Save a quotation or summary from one of your sources
Use existing notes to create a new note choosing one of the suggested actions
Write a new note
Using writing tools
While writing a note, you can use NotebookLM’s suggested actions to help you improve both the style and substance of your prose.
Notes created in NotebookLM are private, but we can share them with other users.
When you have the chance, don't miss trying this spectacular and highly recommended tool!
