National Geographic explores the wonders and curiosities of the U.S. to celebrate the country's 250th anniversary

"Wonders of America" is the title of the multimedia special published by National Geographic magazine to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence.

The special gathers "the grandest, wildest, weirdest bits of geography and culture all across an eclectic country." It's an original journey across the United States through its most extreme, unique, or surprising places, from the earliest sunrise (in Maine) to the steepest street in the country (in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania).

The special offers a collection of short stories that travel through the country's 50 states to showcase spectacular landscapes, cultural oddities, and small human stories. Readers can discover the least populated municipality, the smallest post office, the longest-running hot dog truck, or the most spectacular hot air balloon festival. Or the rainiest place, the river with the most fish species, or the largest living organism on the planet.

This is an original editorial project that pays tribute to the country's diversity, with each story blending facts, historical context, and personal accounts that let readers jump from one curiosity to the next.

The Athletic launches video tutorials to teach the secrets of soccer's biggest stars

The Athletic, the sports-focused digital outlet owned by The New York Times, has launched a spectacular six-part multimedia series, "How To Series," timed to the 2026 World Cup being played across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The series teaches viewers how to recreate the moves and technical skills of soccer's biggest stars, including Messi, Lamine Yamal, Maradona, Cruyff, Zidane, Iniesta, and Van Basten, among many others.

Dribbles, turns, shots, passes, bicycle kicks, chip shots, set pieces… across its episodes — four have been published so far — the series shows and breaks down footage of moves performed by different soccer stars, paired with tutorial videos so any soccer fan can learn to pull them off.

The team The Athletic assembled to produce these instructional videos includes various current and former soccer players, several young talents, and soccer content creator and YouTuber Eman SV2 (Eman Balogun), who has more than 5.7 million subscribers.

TIME unveils its inaugural list of the world's most influential athletes

TIME magazine has just published its inaugural TIME100 Sports list, featuring its selection of the 100 most influential people in the world of sports. The list includes both athletes and other professionals connected to sports in various ways.

This is the cover of the print edition launching this new TIME list:

To make its selection, TIME considered not just excellence in sport, but also influence beyond athletic competition. It's a recognition of athletes and professionals "whose leadership and reach continue to shape conversations, industries, and communities around the world."

The list features some of the most influential athletes of their generation, such as LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Stephen Curry, and Caitlin Clark, as well as figures like Erling Haaland, Aitana Bonmatí, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner, among many others.

⏭️ In Brief

  • Name: Daniela Mendizábal Meléndez

  • Role: Chief Digital Officer, Grupo Multimedios

  • Recommended resource: News Product Alliance

  • Why?
I recommend it because it's one of the few spaces where product, technology, audiences, business, and journalism converge. Through its newsletters, resources, research, and international community, it gives me insight into how other news organizations around the world are solving similar challenges — from registration and subscription strategies to AI, engagement, retention, and user experience.

In an industry where we often learn by trial and error, having access to real-world cases, practical tools, and conversations among professionals greatly accelerates learning. Additionally, much of its content is useful regardless of market or language.
