IKEA Play Report 2024 “The dawning of a play revolution”
On June 11, the United Nations celebrated the first International Day of Play
IKEA has recently released the fourth edition of its IKEA Play Report, presenting findings from an extensive international study on play and fun at home.
The study involved 7,000 children and their parents across seven countries and consultations with global experts. IKEA also visited 36 families in three countries to understand the state of play at home.
The report concludes that a "silent revolution: the play revolution" is emerging. More parents now view play as crucial for happiness and well-being, seeing it as an antidote to stress and worries, particularly in challenging times.
The study highlights that in the past 3-5 years, perceptions of play and its relationship with home life have evolved, with an increasing number of parents prioritizing play at home.
International Day of Play
On June 11, the United Nations celebrated the first International Day of Play to emphasize the importance of play in fostering development and well-being, especially for children.
The UN describes play as a universal language that transcends national, cultural, and socioeconomic boundaries, stimulating resilience, creativity, and innovation. For children, play is essential in building relationships, overcoming trauma, and developing cognitive, physical, creative, social, and emotional skills necessary for thriving in a changing world.

Odyssey on how to harness AI for video creators
Odyssey, a new AI startup, has demonstrated the capabilities of their video creation tool on their website. This tool aims to empower creators to produce high-quality, Hollywood-level videos.
“Instead of replacing humans with algorithms that optimize for clicks, we believe a new visual AI should be placed in the hands of professional storytellers. This visual AI should enable them to not only generate stunning video, but also to precisely direct it, and to tell the epic tales stuck in their head”.
A showcase video on the website illustrates the tool's potential to create scenes, characters, lighting, and movement under the creator's total control, promising a new way to make movies, TV shows, and video games.
