From this Monday afternoon, November 11, until Thursday 14, a new edition of one of the world's largest technology conferences, Web Summit, is being held in Lisbon, with a total of 3,000 startups and 1,000 investors participating, and more than 70,000 expected attendees. Of the participating startups, 1,000 are women-led.

The Web Summit sessions can be followed live via streaming through their YouTube channel. Here is the complete list of speakers who will participate throughout these days.

One of the authors of this newsletter, Clara, will be in Lisbon during these days to participate in this edition of Web Summit.

Web Summit was founded in Dublin in 2009 by Paddy Cosgrave. It started as a 150-person tech conference in October 2009. Since 2009, Web Summit has gathered together over a million business people from around the world. Since then, it hasn't stopped growing and has become a series of gatherings that have already brought together more than a million people from around the world in different locations, such as Lisbon, Las Vegas, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Qatar, or Toronto.

The main objective of Web Summit is to facilitate connection between CEOs and company founders, investors, media, politicians, and the cultural world to facilitate the advancement of the technology sector, especially startups in this field.

This is the summary of the most recent Web Summit, held in Qatar at the beginning of this year:

On Web Summit's YouTube channel, you can also watch sessions from past editions, such as those from Web Summit Qatar 2024.

Monitoring of COP29 on Climate Change in Baku (Azerbaijan)

From this Monday, November 11, until November 22, the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), the United Nations conference on climate change, is being held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The website of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat, the UN entity in charge of supporting the global response to the threat of climate change, will provide daily coverage of COP29.

This entity published a new report a few days ago warning that climate plans fall far short of what the world needs:

This website also features a capacity-building portal that provides tools, projects, courses, and other resources to strengthen the capabilities of developing countries to respond to climate change challenges at national, regional, and local levels.

Another resource to follow what happens at COP29 is the official conference website created by Azerbaijan, the host and organizing country, which bears the title "In Solidarity for a Green World".

On the web, among many other contents, there is a selection of videos that discuss how climate change is affecting different aspects of our lives and our world, such as cultural heritage, health, lifestyle, and the economy, among others.

Finally, the United Nations has a digital space dedicated to climate change, Climate Action, where it groups all information related to this topic.
