Cannes Lions: the great annual gathering of the advertising world is here

From this Monday, June 16, until Friday, June 20, 2025, the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is being held in Cannes (France), considered the great annual gathering of the advertising world.

Throughout these five days, the winners of the Cannes Lions awards in their different categories will be revealed. So far, the finalists for most categories are already known.

In addition to the awards, the festival, which brings together professionals from the advertising, marketing and communications sector from around the world, allows for analysis of the main trends in this field.

Winners will be published on the festival's website as they are announced. This year, a total of 26,900 entries have been submitted. Entries from Latin America have increased by 16% this year, and entries from independent agencies have grown by 18%.

The British newspaper Financial Times has published, within its free service for schools FT Schools, a special report dedicated to guiding all actors in the educational world on how to navigate safely and efficiently through the digital world.

“An FT Schools guide to making the most of online opportunities while avoiding the threats. Including: getting the best out of AI; making money selling second hand items; dealing with digital problems; applying for jobs; spotting misinformation; and finding the best apps.” this is the description offered of the special.

These are three of the topics covered in the guide:

Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team: volunteer maps for humanitarian action

The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) is an international team dedicated to humanitarian action and community development through the creation of open and collaborative maps via the OpenStreetMap platform.

“We work together to provide map data which revolutionises disaster management, reduces risks, and contributes to achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals”,  is explained on the project's website.

HOT's mission is to create and maintain accurate and updated maps of vulnerable areas or those that have been affected by crises of any type. Thus, this non-profit team tries to support the response to natural disasters, humanitarian emergencies, armed conflicts, migrations or public health problems.

Thousands of volunteers collaborate with HOT in the updated maintenance of maps so they can be used by the corresponding emergency and aid teams.

In the Tools & Data section, the tools that volunteers can use are available.

According to data provided by HOT, a total of 491,000 people have collaborated in updating the maps, in which 260 million edits have been made. For example, more than 156 million buildings in different parts of the world have been mapped and 3.4 million kilometers of roads have been located on the maps.
