Rest of World: Technology beyond the West
Rest of World is an award-winning non-profit multimedia publication that pays special attention to the influence of technology on people's lives through reporting conducted across the globe beyond the developed Western world.
The publication's leaders believe that their name encapsulates the problems they fight against: "a casual dismissal of billions of people and a Western-centric worldview that leaves an unthinkable number of ideas, opportunities, and nuances out of the global conversation."
One of Rest of World's distinguishing features is its commitment to multimedia and interactive formats. This past week, three works published last year by Rest of World have been named finalists in the Design category of the National Magazine Awards by the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME):
Rest of World, which aims to empower local journalists who create stories in their places of origin, works with more than 250 independent journalists worldwide.
The stories are organized by world regions (Africa, Asia, China, Eastern Europe, Latin America, South Asia, and Middle East and North Africa) and by sections (Access and Connectivity, Creators and Communities, E-commerce, Work, Money, Politics, and Platform Economy).

Additionally, Gallup also maintains and updates a series of global indicators of societal progress and, particularly, in the workplace.
The most recent topic tackled by Gallup is a large global survey about what people expect from leaders, which concludes that instilling hope is the most demanded quality from the population when looking at their leaders, ahead of trust.
Gallup has also recently published the initial approval rating for the new President of the United States, Donald Trump, which is similar to his first term, confirming him as the president with the worst initial approval ratings since 1953.
