AI takes center stage in the new features unveiled by Google at its annual Google I/O conference
Google held its annual developers conference Google I/O 2025 this week in Mountain View, California (United States), where it announced a series of notable innovations, particularly related to artificial intelligence.
Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai published a summary of the main announcements on the company's blog, which include the following:
Advances in Google's AI models such as Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash.
Google Beam, a new AI-powered 3D video communications platform.
Real-time voice translation will be available in Google Meet. "Almost in real time, it mimics the speaker's voice tone and pitch, and even their expressions, creating something close to a natural and fluid conversation in different languages." This is the demonstration video presented by Google:
Gemini Live: assistant with camera and screen sharing capabilities.
Agent Mode for the Gemini app (task automation).
The personalization of AI is also highlighted with features like personalized Smart Replies in Gmail and the new AI Mode in search.
Advances in multimedia content generation with models like Veo 3 (video) and Imagen 4 (images)
A new cinematic clip creation tool: Flow.
Pichai states that "the world is embracing AI" and that "there's more intelligence available for everyone and everywhere. And the world is responding by adopting AI faster than ever before." For example, the Gemini app has more than 400 million monthly active users.
This video summarizes the presented innovations:

TIME launches the first edition of the TIME100 Philanthropy list
TIME magazine has just released the first edition of its TIME100 Philanthropy list, highlighting the world’s leading philanthropists.
TIME’s editor-in-chief, Sam Jacobs, explained the reasons behind the magazine’s decision to create this new list. TIME launched its TIME100 franchise 21 years ago, with the goal of spotlighting the most influential people on the planet “believing that individuals have the power to change the world.” Over the years, that franchise has expanded into key areas of society, such as artificial intelligence (AI), climate (Climate), health (Health), and now, philanthropy.
The TIME100 Philanthropy list includes individuals from 28 countries, selected by TIME’s reporters, editors, and contributors. The coordinator of this project, Ayesha Javed, stated that “at this critical moment, this list tells the stories of how generous donors and leaders of foundations and nonprofit organizations are directing funds to the communities that need them most.”
A few days ago, as we reported in “Hoy en internet” (the Spanish edition of this newsletter), Bill Gates announced that the Gates Foundation will donate $200 billion over the next 20 years to fund humanitarian projects, and will shut down in 2045 once this enormous sum — representing nearly the entirety of Bill Gates’s fortune — has been spent.
The cover features former footballer and Inter Miami owner David Beckham, a UNICEF ambassador.

Selection of books on storytelling and writing
A group of journalists, authors, producers and filmmakers, with the collaboration of readers from the Nieman Storyboard website of the Nieman Foundation, have recently published an extensive selection of more than 40 books on storytelling and the art of writing that have inspired them in their work.
The list also includes some of the favorite books of the article's author, Mallary Tenore Tarpley, a journalism and writing professor at the University of Texas at Austin, whose first nonfiction book, "SLIP," will be published this coming August. She is also the author of the weekly writing newsletter "Write at the Edge."
The list is organized into various categories:
Writing, storytelling, and general inspiration
Storytelling in journalism
Narrative nonfiction
Oral storytelling: podcasting and live stories onstage
Screenwriting
Fiction
