A selection of videos to celebrate 100 years of BBC naturalist David Attenborough

British scientist David Attenborough, who turned 100 on May 8th, is one of the world's best-known nature broadcasters, thanks to his many television productions for the BBC. He is widely regarded as a pioneer in the creation of nature and wildlife documentaries.
The BBC has published a special to mark his centenary, bringing together multimedia content that helps capture the significance of his work. We owe David Attenborough legendary series such as Life on Earth (1979), The Blue Planet (2001) and Planet Earth (2006). With his distinctive narrating style and the constant technological innovations used to film his documentaries, Attenborough has brought the secrets of the natural world into millions of homes around the globe for decades.
At On the Net Today we want to join in this tribute with a selection of videos showcasing some of his finest television moments. You can watch them below:

Google tops the Kantar BrandZ 2026 ranking of the world's most valuable brands, with AI taking center stage

Artificial intelligence and the transformation it has brought to the relationship between brands and people is the defining theme of the Kantar BrandZ Global Top 100 2026 ranking of the world's most valuable brands, just published by Kantar.
Google, Apple, Microsoft and Amazon occupy the top four positions in the ranking, and all four now exceed one trillion dollars in brand value.
This is the first time Google has taken the top spot since 2018, driven by the integration of its Gemini AI across its ecosystem, AI-powered features in its search service, and investment in data centers. Its brand value has reached $1.48 trillion. Apple, second in the ranking, is valued at $1.38 trillion.
Kantar BrandZ's analysis "reinforces a consistent truth: in markets defined by speed and fragmentation, the brands that win are those that show up as relevant and different at every touchpoint, anticipate signals of change, turn insights into action, and build strategies that generate real value."
The report reveals that AI-native brands are making a strong entrance. Claude debuts in the global Top 100 at number 27, while ChatGPT records the largest year-on-year rise in the ranking, with a 285% increase.
Another notable finding is that Spanish company Zara has become the world's most valuable fashion brand, overtaking Nike. Zara ranks 66th globally, with a brand value of $44.088 billion.
The Kantar BrandZ ranking is based on the opinions of 4.6 million people who evaluated a total of 22,392 brands.

The "Netflix Effect" on the global economy

Streaming company Netflix has launched a website called "The Netflix Effect" to explain the economic, cultural and social impact its films and series have on economies, industries and everyday life around the world, as written by company co-CEO Ted Sarandos.
Netflix, which ten years ago " went from entertaining audiences in about 60 countries to more than 190 in a single day," believes that "the best way to be global was to start off intensely local."
Here are some of the data and figures featured in the special:
“Over the past decade, Netflix has invested more than $135B in films and series, contributing over $325B to the global economy.”
“We’ve created more than 425,000 jobs on our productions alone.”
“We produce our shows and movies in more than 4,500 cities and towns in more than 50 countries around the world. Every Netflix production is a local production, creating jobs and growing businesses wherever it’s made. And they’re having an impact far beyond the screen.”
“Five seasons of Stranger Things created more than 8,000 production jobs — including over 200 stunt performers who worked on the final season alone.”
“Over the last decade, Netflix shows and movies have consistently shaped what people read, buy, listen to, eat, wear and play. We’ve pushed old songs back up the musical charts, helped niche sports go mainstream, and boosted sales of everything from chess sets, to Halloween costumes, to home storage.”
“Now we have a responsibility to keep that flywheel going. That’s why, while other entertainment companies pull back, we’re leaning in — spending tens of billions of dollars on content every year, investing in production facilities from Spain to New Jersey, and growing the entertainment industry through training programs that have reached over 90,000 people across more than 75 countries.”
